Al Salam Bank first in region with ISO/IEC 42001 AI certification
The Bahrain-listed lender told DFM it secured the AI management-system standard covering IT-managed applications under a June 2026 statement of applicability.

Al Salam Bank B.S.C told Dubai Financial Market on 1 October 2026 that it achieved ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification for its Artificial Intelligence Management System, calling itself the first bank in the region to secure the standard. The certification covers AI applications managed by the bank’s Information Technology Department under a Statement of Applicability dated 8 June 2026.

Al Salam Bank B.S.C told Dubai Financial Market it has achieved ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification for its Artificial Intelligence Management System, saying the Bahrain-listed lender is the first bank in the region to secure the standard.
In a Manama press release dated 1 October 2026 and filed on DFM, the bank said the certification covers design, development, deployment and operation of AI-powered applications and solutions managed by its Information Technology Department, under a Statement of Applicability version 1.1 dated 8 June 2026.
The ISO/IEC 42001 framework governs AI-related opportunities and risks through defined accountability, risk assessment, lifecycle controls, monitoring and continual improvement. Al Salam Bank framed the award as part of a broader move toward an AI-powered bank with responsible governance.
Deputy Group CEO – Banking Anwar Murad said the certification reflects focused work to adopt AI with clear governance, accountability and risk management while supporting client experience, operational efficiency and decision-making. SGS Bahrain and Advantari also commented on the certification and implementation support in the same release.
