We collect as little personal data as we can while running a news site, reader accounts and a newsroom inbox. This page explains what we store, why, and how to ask about it.

Who we are

Capital Wire operates capital-wire.com and related newsroom channels. For privacy questions, use the contact form and choose Privacy, or write to privacy@capital-wire.com.

Data we collect on the website

For an anonymous reader we store a preference that remembers your language choice, and aggregate traffic measurements that do not identify you. We do not build advertising profiles from reading history.

If you create a reader account, we store your name, email address, preferred language, the companies, exchanges, sectors and topics you follow, stories you save, and — only if you turn browser alerts on — a device token used to deliver those alerts. Deleting the account removes that record from our systems, subject to short-term backups.

Contact forms and email

When you send a message through the contact form, we receive the details you submit (including your email address and message) so the right desk can reply. We keep those messages as business correspondence for as long as needed to handle the request and meet ordinary record-keeping needs.

Messages on Facebook and Instagram

If you message the Capital Wire Facebook Page or the Capital Wire Instagram account, the newsroom may read that message and reply. For that purpose only, we store the message text and Meta’s sender id, and we keep a short operational record of the message id, the sender id and the time. We do not sell this information and we do not use it for advertising.

Privacy questions: privacy@capital-wire.com, or the contact form with the topic Privacy. Press: press@capital-wire.com. Corrections: corrections@capital-wire.com. Commercial enquiries: commercial@capital-wire.com. Meta also processes the conversation under its own terms. If you prefer not to use those channels, use the contact form on this site.

Cookies and similar technology

We use cookies or local storage needed for language preference, session security for signed-in readers, and basic site operation. Clearing site data removes the stored language preference; the site will ask your browser again on the next visit.

Optional analytics: if you accept the on-site prompt, we load Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4 to measure page views. Analytics storage stays denied until you accept. We do not turn on advertising storage or ad personalisation. You can change the choice by clearing site data for capital-wire.com, which brings the prompt back.

What we do not do

We do not sell reader data. We do not share identifiable reading history with advertisers. We do not use contact or social-inbox messages to build marketing segments.

Sharing

We use service providers that host the site, send email, deliver push alerts, or provide the Meta messaging platform when you contact us there. They process data on our instructions or, in Meta’s case, also under their own controller roles as described in their policies. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the security of the service.

Retention and your choices

Account data lasts until you delete the account, unless a longer legal hold applies. Contact and inbox records are kept only as long as needed for the purpose above. You can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for a correction, or ask us to delete account data by using the contact form and choosing Privacy.
